Resort Fees

Please be aware that many, not all, but many hotels and resorts in Las Vegas charge a "resort fee" or "facility fee". This is an added fee that will be added to your bill normally upon check out. Resort fees can range anywhere from $1.00 per nights stay to $25.00 per night.

Resort fees are a surcharge that cover the use of amenities and services supplied by the hotels and resorts. Here is a sample of what Station Casinos charge as of 1/6/2012:

The following mandatory hotel-imposed fees are charged and collected by the hotel either at check-in or check-out.

Sunset Station Hotel And Casino
  • Resort fee: USD 14.99 per accommodation, per night

  • Hotel resort fee inclusions:
  • Internet access in guestroom
  • Phone calls (ltd local/long-distance)
  • Newspaper (daily)
  • Use of fitness center
  • Use of in-room safe
  • Additional inclusions

  • The above list may not be comprehensive. Mandatory hotel-imposed fees may not include tax and are subject to change.

I personally think these these are a scam created just to gouge visitors and suggest you voice your displeasure of these fees should you be charged. Give the upper management an earful. Write them, e-mail them, call them!

Take a good look at these inclusions. Are they really necessary?

Internet Access - The older generation could care less, the younger generation can access via the cell phone. If a business person or someone wants it, charge them separately.

Phone Calls - Another BS charge. Over 90% of visitors use cell phones these days.

Daily Newspapers - It is not necessary to supply every room in the hotel with a newspaper. I could care less about day old news. Each hotel should put a newspaper box or two down in the lobby. The savings on newspapers each days would cover a large portion of the resort fees.

Use of Fitness Center - I'd like to see some stats on this. My guess is less than 10% of guest use the fitness centers in hotels. If a guest want access, charge them individually via the room key card.

In-room Safe - Charging for convenience they added. What's next? Charging for water in the rooms? Oh wait! They already do that that!  Did you know that if there is bottled water in the room and you open one that you are charged a a few bucks for that bottle of water. Some hotels even charge if you unwrap a plastic cup.

Additional Inclusions - What will they think of next to rip-off their valued customers?
